Why write?
It’s been over two months since I started sharing my writing online. This is my 67th daily post.
A friend recently asked, “what are you hoping to get out of this?”
I think it’s two things.
First, I want to think and communicate more clearly. Writing helps. I’ve been consistently writing in a personal journal for over two years. But writing online - not just for myself - is different. It requires more clarity of thought because as I write this sentence I have to think about the fact that you’re going to read it.
Hi.
Also, I have ideas I want to refine. Relationships I want to strengthen. People I want to meet. Projects I want to start someday. I have half-baked theories I want to flesh out.
And the internet is magic.
Maybe some day years from now someone will stumble upon something I’ve written. And that will lead to an email that leads to a conversation that leads to a meeting that leads to a project. Maybe we’ll solve an important problem together that makes life better for someone somewhere.
Or maybe I’ll write online for 365 days in a row and it will turn out I’m just posting into the void.
It could be the only thing I have to show for this is an honest and reflective body of work. If I’m really lucky, maybe my kids will want to read one or two of these posts some day.
And I’ll be good with that.
That would be pretty good too.
