Hard work

Americans value hard work. It’s not just a means of accumulating control, power, and wealth. Work is dignified. Intrinsically good. It makes us creators. Contributors.

But we don’t pay people for working hard. We pay for outcomes.

If we hire someone to cut our lawn, we don’t care if it takes them 15 minutes or 50 minutes. We just want it to look good.

Hard work often leads to better outcomes.

But the outcome is what matters.

The world values outcomes more.
