That one thing
Early stage companies need people who are well rounded. Athletes. Roles aren’t clearly defined. Everyone is doing everything.
And early in our careers, it’s helpful to be able to contribute in whatever way we’re asked.
But as an early stage company matures, so do the roles.
And as our career matures, it’s helpful to identify one area where we can be exceptional.
Because as our career matures, people don’t hire us, buy from us, or introduce us to their networks because we’re well rounded.
They hire us, buy from us, and introduce us because we’re excellent at something.
Balance is good. To an extent. But we should identify that one thing. That one area where we can be excellent. And invest even more energy in it.
