More analog
I turned 38 a few weeks ago. And I bought my first automatic wrist watch. The kind that doesn’t run on batteries, but automatically winds itself when you move your wrist by using a weight inside the watch that oscillates to put tension on the mainspring through the random motion of the watch wearer's arm. Batteries not included — or needed.
I’ve never consistently worn a wrist watch. I’m almost never without my iPhone. Why would I need one?
Then I started working remotely.
I’ve been working remotely from my home office for 5 months. I work at home, but I feel like I live at work. And because I’m not sharing physical space with my team, I check my iPhone. Constantly.
Now I have a watch. It doesn’t keep time as accurately as my iPhone or even a cheap digital watch. It might be off by 3 seconds per day. But it’s not connected to the internet. It doesn’t need to be charged. And it doesn’t even use a battery. It’s just gears and springs and weights.

Just the time.
