It doesn’t go without saying
We assume people know what’s in our heads. It seems so obvious to us. It should be obvious to them too.
“Of course she knows I love her. I married her, and we’re raising children together.”
or
“Of course he knows what our #1 goal is this month. We discussed it in detail in our all hands meeting last Monday, and our progress is clearly tracked in our CRM.”
But in personal relationships and business relationships, it’s always better to over-communicate. It usually costs us nothing. Or next to nothing. And there’s no downside to telling someone something they already know.
“Hey, I love you and you’re my favorite person.”
or
“We’re halfway through August, and we’re 40% toward reaching our goal for the month. We’re almost on pace, but we’ll need to pick it up.”
It doesn’t go without saying.
