Happiness is peace in motion

Naval Ravikant is an unexpected combination of venture capital investor / contemplative philosopher. Born in India, raised in New York City, and educated at Dartmouth, he moved West and has lived a Silicon Valley fairy tale. He founded AngelList. He raised a $20M fund and became an early investor in Twitter, Uber, Foursquare, and Postmates. And others. He’s had over 70 exits.

Also, Naval has almost 1M followers on Twitter. But not just because he’s a good investor. He has almost 1M followers on Twitter because he’s mastered the art of distilling complicated ideas into 140 characters or less. He’s like the Yoda of Twitter.

For example:

Happiness is peace in motion.

Nailed it. In 29 characters.

If happiness is peace in motion, those of us searching for happiness are aiming at the wrong target. We should be aiming for peace.

Happiness follows.

Not just the kind of pleasure-driven ephemeral dopamine hit happiness derived from eating a bowl of ice cream. But also the steady kind that endures on days without any ice cream.

Peace.

If we aim for peace, we still enjoy the ice cream. The loud party. But when the party ends, we’re still good.
